Presentation
The Library on Health in Official Language Minority Communities, or OLMC Library, is an online database created on the initiative of Jacinthe Savard and Louise Bouchard, co-holders of the Chaire de recherche de l’Université d’Ottawa et de l’Institut du Savoir Montfort sur la santé des francophones de l’Ontario for the 2019-2024 period. It is now managed and updated by the Forces-Santé Network. Changer le lien pour celui vers le site anglais
The OLMC Library compiles scientific articles and reports from academic, community, and government sources dealing with health in OLMCs, primarly in Canada, but also in other countries with more than one official language. At this time, the scope of the search does not include documents that focused exclusively on language barriers to health care for groups speaking a non-official language in a country.
Objectives of the OLMC Library
The OLMC Library aims to preserve a lasting documentary record on health in minority language contexts and to facilitate access to relevant resources and evidence for research and decision-making, including scientific documentation in French and specialized gray literature that is often more difficult to locate.
It supports the work of researchers and students by providing centralized access to documentation that is often scattered. It also supports policy makers, journalists, community organizations, and health professionals by giving them access to reliable and sustainable information to guide health policies, practices, and actions.
Methodological notes
The reference database was compiled using bibliographic search engines covering several disciplines (e.g., Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar, Érudit, CAIRN). In order to identify gray literature, we also consulted the websites of various organizations interested in health in OLMCs.
Priority was given to identifying documents related to health in Francophone minority communities. The compilation of texts related to other OLMCs is continuing, as resources permit.
New references are added to the OLMC Library on a regular basis. If you would like to suggest new publications, add a full text to an existing reference, or correct an error, please do not hesitate to contact us at the following address:forces-sante@uottawa.ca
Browsing the library
A search engine allows you to find references using keywords, author names, or the year of publication of a document. Do not hesitate to consult the help feature to better control the scope of your search.
The "Explore" column allows you to search only for publications that meet certain criteria, according to eight categories. Explanations are provided in the "Classification" tab on how the documents have been classified.
Access to documents included in the library
When the document has a DOI—a unique and permanent identifier that allows a digital resource to be reliably located on the internet—this number is provided. The full text of the resource is not included in our library in order to respect copyright.
For documents without a DOI, the URL of the site where the document was published is provided, allowing access to the resource. Where possible, the reference is accompanied by the full text to ensure its preservation in case the original site is modified or deleted.
Use of documentation
The resources of the OLMC Library are made available for research and educational purposes. Unless otherwise indicated, third parties are not authorized to use or reproduce the documentation for commercial purposes, nor to distribute or modify it without the express permission of the author(s), copyright holder, or their representative.
